Winter News
products/mga-pic.jpg

Winter News!!

Here we are again and its nearly 2012. What a year this will be. We will all have to learn to relax into the mad dash that life has become. To help us a little in this regard, Max Green Alchemy has come out with a wonderful new product called MattePaste and it is the best Curl definer yet! It gives a good hold without any extra crunchy feel or stiffness. It's wonderful for both curly and wavy hair.

The Salon is getting a little bit of a facelift as I am painting, rearranging, and dusting out the corners. I am 'occupying' my space fully now and am very pleased to be able to spread out, offer more hours, and focus fully on providing a beautiful space for my clients. I've even planted an edible garden in my patio space.

Happy New year!!

Henna and Indigo
hennaindigo4.jpeg

Finally!! A truly natural way to cover grey hair without toxicity! I am working with Mehandi henna and indigo. Although this two-step process takes a little bit longer, the results are fantastic! Shiny, various shades of brown, and absolutley no compromise to the integrity of the hair. In other words, no damage!! I have completely made the shift myself and it is so very nice to have shiny healthy hair again.

This will work for all proportions of grey, whether you are 5% or 100%.

for more information, please contact me at your earliest convenience. florescencedesigns@gmail.com

Warmly,

Jenn

Exciting news!!

we are now donating to the Hair for oil spills program through Matteroftrust.org:

HAIR FOR OIL SPILLS PROGRAM
2000-Present

hair for hair mats

History:
Matter of Trust is collaborating with thousands of salons throughout the US and abroad, that donate their hair clippings to soak up oil spills. Last year over 2,600 oil spills occurred in the world. They weren't all are high profile, but most had an impact on the environment. Phil McCrory, a hair stylist from Alabama, first discovered how hair can help. He was watching CNN coverage on the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. He noticed the fur on the Alaskan otters completely soaked with oil. He began testing how much oil he could collect with the hair clipping from his salon. Phil then invented the hairmat which has other uses as well. Hair also provides a slow protein release which is excellent for flower growers. For more information on hair as a natural fertilizer, please see Phil and our friends at SmartGrow.

The US has over 300,000 hair salons and each cuts an average of a pound of hair per day. Salons generously pay out of pocket for postage to send their swept up hair clippings to our donated warehouse spaces. We do the fundraising for this program and outreach through placing our posters in participating salons and with the help of the press.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE HAIR NEXT?

Loose hair can be stuffed into nylon stockings which we double up and tie together to make "booms" that surround and contain as well as soak up oil spills.

We also sort through boxes of hair to make sure there is no garbage and then pay to send it off to nonwoven needlepunch factories to make batches of hairmats. These mats are for emergency oil spills and for oiled bird and mammal cages.

We are fundraising for our own needlepunch machine here in California to make hair mats on a continual basis. This will provide jobs and training - a pathway out of poverty for those transitioning out of foster care (at risk youth 18-22 years old). To help please check out our contribute page.

We are also collaborating with the The East Bay Depot For Creative Reuse and San Francisco Carpet Recycling to create a national hair recycling system like those in other countries. China has been purchasing hair from salons and wigmakers for centuries to make doll hair and paint brushes... Hair could be a commodity here, too. But for now, most oil spill clean up methods use oil based plastic pads, booms, soapy chemicals and other products. So, salons are generously mailing in their hair clippings to us at their own expense. THANKS TO YOU WONDERFUL SALONS AND ALL DONORS - FOR KEEPING THE WATERWAYS CLEANER!

Happy Fall. New news!! 2009

A note from Jenn Archbold:

Hello to everyone!

I hope your summer was great. Ours was quiet but full of nice memories.

As I get ready for fall and the busy season of the year, there are a few new changes around the Salon.

New Schedule:
As of September 14th I will be including Mondays in my schedule. The new work week (with the exception the second Sunday and Monday of the month) will be:

Monday 10:30-2:30
Wednesday 12:30-8:30
Thursday 12:30- 8:30
Sunday 12-6

The extra day will give you a few more options. However, consider planning your services throughout the end of the year. I anticipate being quite busy and want everyone to get the spots they want-particularly as we head into the holiday season ( it comes up quickly!). I book up fairly far in advance, so keep that in mind when you schedule. And as usually if you should wish to cancel, please give me a week's notice so that someone on the waiting list can be pleasantly surprised!

New Treatments and products:

1) A new de-mineralizing treatment for deep cleansing and removing chlorine. Did you know California has hard water? I didn't until recently. I will be selling a service and take home packets for all those that are having a hard time with color coverage or who swim on a regular basis. The product is freeze-dried vitamins and work naturally to break the ionic bond that is cementing the minerals to your hair.

2) A new Henna Treatment. Along with my usual brand of Organic henna I am now offering Henna from Yemen. It is pure body grade henna (meaning it has more concentrated color molecules) and comes in only red. I am mixing it with indigo, Buxus, Alma, Cassia, Olive Oil, and Black Walnut for grey coverage and beautiful rich brown, red, and blonde tones. This treatment requires a longer process time and so you will need to plan on wearing it home. Curious? Give me a call, and I would be happy to talk to you further.

3) Quiet Calm. This is a new styling aid from Innersense, a line devoted to non-toxic ingredients. This is a light hold that softens the hair while giving it body. For those that are familiar with the discontinued Botz product, this is the closest thing I have come to replacing it. It works for fine hair and curly hair.

As usual, I continue to research products that have non-toxic ingredients AND work as they say they will.

Jewelry news:

I will finally be revving up my jewelry business again! So watch for new designs and more stock in past designs. I will have stock in plenty of time for the holidays. I will be getting my work out into other venues this coming year, so if you have a store you love that you think would work, don't hesitate to tell me about it!

New Prices:

As of October 1st I will have a small price increase of $10 per service. If you get a combination of services, there will be a $10 price break. Please review my price list under services on my website and if you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. www.florescence-designs.com

As always, I continue in this business because of my wonderful clients. So a hardy "thank you" for all of your patronage and support over the years. I look forward to a new season and a new year with all of you.

Cheers,
Jenn Archbold
