Communication and Artistry 

 

Communication and artistry are at the forefront of my work. I find that  combining the two, results in a graceful style that makes you, the client, feel good about yourself. 

The process is two-fold.

First, I find my direction by carefully listening and  evaluating your relationship to your hair. I watch how you work with it and listen to what you think about it. Then I focus my attention on the natural movement of your hair and how it relates to your form. I have a dialogue with your hair and evaluate its capacity and tendency to move. 

The artistry is finding a harmonious balance between your desires and the unique movement of your hair. I draw from a foundation of training with names such as Vidal Sassoon, Irvine and Rita Rusk, Yosh, and a handful of very talented individuals. With 20 years of experience I have developed my own techniques that allow me to cut spontaneously while maintaining a  precise form and structure. The result is usually a beautiful cut that grows out superbly.

I am inspired both by natural forms and the well-being of my clients.

I see the effortless ebb and flow of movement everywhere in nature. Like a stream wrapping around river rock, or the texture of sun and shadow on  a hillside, I look for the same natural landscapes in hair. Paring away the excess, I allow your natural movement and form to emerge.

I also provide a calm and private space that can facilitate a release of stress. Whether subtle or profound, these are often fresh and cleansing experiences and I am always honored to be part of the process.

I have dedicated the last 15 years to providing a healthy alternative to the usual toxic salon environment. I am proud to offer Florescence as a rejuvenating retreat and revitalizing experience.

Communication and Harmony

 

Beauty is the quality that gives intense pleasure to the senses and deep satisfaction to the mind.  Harmony of form, balance of color, excellence in artistry, truth of being, and originality are all properties associated with beauty.

Helping people to see their unique beauty is my passion.  Whether enhancing and illuminating, or gently coaxing it's emergence, I savor the process and treasure the honor.

When I was 10, I experienced a hairdresser who listened and really heard me. He created the most flattering cut for my face shape, hair type, and personality. For the first time, I felt beautiful. What a profound impact this had. From that moment on, I have been compelled to share this joy.

After graduating from Zenzi's beauty academy, I received advanced training in San Francisco's Union Square - the West Coast's Mecca for creative hair design - from artists such as Toni & Guy, Vidal Sassoon, Yosh, Irvine Rusk, and Paul Sebastian.  I went on to become an advanced trainer for Hubert Braun Hairstyling in Union Square.  There, I was awarded certification in the art of color and curl. 

A few years later, in my quest to learn about beauty for the whole person, I earned certification in personal image consulting, and performed whole image makeovers for an expanding clientele.

My practice has had many rebirths in the last 21 years. Currently, I am integrating the next wave of safe cosmetics, hair care, and color. This transition happened naturally, as my personal choice for a lifestyle of organic living and walking lightly on the earth began to influence my work. As I learned about the toxins in hair and makeup products, I could no longer use products on clients that I did not feel safe using myself. 

I start our session by taking the time to consult with you, to listen carefully to your desires, history, experiences, goals and fears, as I consider your hair type, face shape, silhouette, personality and lifestyle.  The harmony that lies within is the medium I use to sculpt and paint the image that emerges from your personal story.  Our time together always includes a relaxing scalp massage as well as instructional styling techniques tailored your individual needs.
